Edith’s succes

From a pig and some chickens to a cow

In 2022, Edith was selected as a beneficiary under a livelihood support initiative, receiving one pig and five chickens to help her kickstart an income-generating activity. With dedication and the knowledge she gained through training, she diligently cared for the animals, applying good animal husbandry practices she had learned.

Over time, the pig multiplied, and she sold some of the offspring while keeping others for continued reproduction. Meanwhile, the chickens provided a steady source of eggs and additional income. With the profits generated from selling piglets and eggs, Edith began saving consistently through her group.

Two years later, Edith achieved a major milestone — she bought a healthy cow. This cow not only represents a financial asset but also offers additional benefits like milk for household consumption and sale, and manure to improve her crop production of macadamia, avocadoes and bananas.

Edith’s journey is a testament to how small support, when combined with commitment and training, can lead to sustainable livelihood transformation. She is now an inspiration to many in her group and community, showing that real change starts with one step and the right support.
